Sunday night marked the first time this season where the Mission City Outlaws strung together back to back wins as they defeated the undefeated White Rock Whalers 5-4.
Outlaws jumped quickly out of the gate and controlled most of the play in the opening period and would strike early just 2:37 in when Rehaun Lidder got one past starting goaltender Landon Garbitt. Colton Collard would make it 2-0 with his 12th of the season. Collard now extends his goal scoring streak to 8 games. Max Wingrove would make it 3-0 with a power play marker after the first 20 minutes.
Outlaws would start the 2nd period much like the first and make it 4-0 when Joseph Tuhten put a backhander past back up goalie Dylan Karan who came in relief of Garbitt to start the middle frame. White Rock would finally get on the board as the Outlaws had a fair bit of penalty trouble and on 1 of 3 5 on 3 opportunities Sean Robins would net his 9th of the season making it 4-1 for the home town outlaws after 2.
White Rock made a hard push in the 3rd as they scored 3 in the final frame. Tanner Halley notched his 2nd of the season just 1:44 in but Cade Peden would respond a short while later on the Powerplay to get the eventual game winner.
Whalers would pull the goalie late in the period and even managed to get a 4th goal but the Outlaws would hang on and after some stellar goaltending from Jake Poblete, Mission City would pick up the win.
With the win, the Outlaws moved to .500 on the season at 5-5.
The Outlaws will be back in action on Saturday night when they welcome the North Van Wolf Pack. Puck Drop is 6:45pm.
